چکیده

Electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) represents a crucial cathodic process of different fuel cells. The development highly active and stable noble metal-free ORR electrocatalysts remains as one major challenges. Herein, we report cobalt/nitrogen co-doped porous carbon materials (Co-N-C) originated from well-designed bimetal-organic frameworks (Zn100-xCox-ZIF) efficient in both pH-neutral alkaline solutions. compositional structural features, the corresponding activity can be tailored by tuning Zn/Co ratio precursor. Remarkable features large surface-area suitable graphitization degree well-dispersed Co-N-C moieties, enable high catalytic efficiency. optimized electrocatalyst registers considerable performance with half-wave potential 0.65 V vs RHE saturated current density 5.30 mA cm−2 close to value commercial Pt/C 0.1 M pH 7.0 PBS, along operational stability tolerance glucose. A preliminary one-compartment hybrid glucose/O2 enzymatic biofuel cell, consisting Co-N-C-10 abiotic cathode glucose oxidizing bioanode, is constructed tested. Furthermore, presents reasonable electrocatalytic condition.

Biomass-derived nitrogen self-doped porous carbon as effective metal-free catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction.

Biomass-derived nitrogen self-doped porous carbon was synthesized by a facile procedure based on simple pyrolysis of water hyacinth (eichhornia crassipes) at controlled temperatures (600-800 °C) with ZnCl2 as an activation reagent. The obtained porous carbon exhibited a BET surface area up to 950.6 m(2) g(-1), and various forms of nitrogen (pyridinic, pyrrolic and graphitic) were found to be in...

Catalytic Mechanisms of Sulfur-Doped Graphene as Efficient Oxygen Reduction Reaction Catalysts for Fuel Cells

Density functional theory (DFT) was applied to study sulfur-doped graphene clusters as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) cathode catalysts for fuel cells. Several sulfurdoped graphene clusters with/without Stone−Wales defects were investigated and their electronic structures, reaction free energy, transition states, and energy barriers were calculated to predict their catalytic properties. The re...

N-doped carbon nanomaterials are durable catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction in acidic fuel cells

The availability of low-cost, efficient, and durable catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a prerequisite for commercialization of the fuel cell technology. Along with intensive research efforts of more than half a century in developing nonprecious metal catalysts (NPMCs) to replace the expensive and scarce platinum-based catalysts, a new class of carbon-based, low-cost, metal-free O...

Intumescent flame retardant-derived P,N co-doped porous carbon as an efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction.

An intumescent flame retardant (IFR), including melamine (MA), ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and polydopamine (PDA), was utilized as the precursor to prepare P,N co-doped hierarchically porous carbon which exhibited high electrocatalytic activity and durability for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). This finding indicates that an ingenious design of the precursor can lead to functional carbon...
